Driving theory questions

You are considering the possibility of overtaking the lorry that has pulled out in front of you. The temperature is +2°C. What do you need to think about?

  • Correct: The snow on the road could cause me to lose control of my car.
  • Incorrect: The snow on the road cannot cause any dangerous situations, because the temperature is above freezing.
  • Incorrect: The snow on the road is so wet that it will not affect grip, although it may splash other road-users.

The presence of snow or slush on the road can be dangerous, regardless of the temperature. Driving onto the snow entails a risk of ‘snowplaning’, which is similar to aquaplaning and causes you to lose the ability to steer your vehicle.
