Run-through of the alternative answers:

  • It is appropriate for me to drive onto the verge at the side of the road, because this will benefit the traffic behind me.
    – The Road Traffic Ordinance states that: “If this is necessary in order to benefit the passing ability of other traffic, the verge may be used temporarily, even for travel with other vehicles.

  • It is not appropriate for me to drive onto the verge at the side of the road, because the road curves to the left further ahead.
    – The opposite is true, it is particularly appropriate, because it is more difficult to see oncoming traffic. With regard to the curve of the road to the left, you are helping the traffic behind you even more than if the road was straight.

  • I may not drive onto the verge at the side of the road, because the road markings at the edge of the road do not permit this.
    – The road markings at the edge of the road have a ribbed appearance to ensure that they make a sound when wheels drive over them (e.g. if the driver falls asleep at the wheel). These do, however, count as regular broken edge lines (M2), which it is permitted to drive over.

  • I may not drive onto the verge at the side of the road, because the obstruction markers visible at the start of the video do not permit this.
The obstruction markers (X3) are only to inform you that the road will have barriers along the side.
