What is true regarding the emissions of sulphur dioxide?

  • Incorrect: The emissions have become a growing problem in recent years.
  • Incorrect: The emissions are relatively constant, as sulphur cannot be filtered out by the catalytic converter.
  • Correct: The sulphur content in modern fuels is very low.

The sulphur emissions from road traffic have gone down a great deal in the last 15 years and is now only 1 per cent of what they were in 1990. Road traffic sulphur dioxide emissions is therefore a problem we can consider solved, as today’s fuels contain very small amounts of sulphur.” (Swedish Transport Administration)
