You increase your speed threefold in a curve. How much does the lateral force increase?
The lateral force is the centripetal force. It increases quadratically (to the power of 2) in relation to the speed.
How many times faster is the speed? Answer: 3 times greater speed.
How many times greater is the centripetal force? Answer: 32 = 3 * 3 = 9, i.e. the centripetal force is nine times greater.
