Bicycle lane line (M5)
“The road marking indicates the boundary between a cycle lane and another lane. The ratio in the length of the lines and the gaps in between is 1:1.”
The regulation on road traffic definitions defines a cycle lane as: “A specific lane that, by means of road markings, is reserved for cyclists and drivers of class II mopeds”.
In other words, a cycle lane is a lane for cyclists.
“A driver may only start from the side of the road, change lanes or otherwise change the lateral positioning of the vehicle if it is possible to do so without causing a hazard or an obstruction to other road-users.” (Road Traffic Ordinance)
Run-through of the alternative answers:
- When crossing the cycle lane, I have the same obligations as when crossing a lane intended for motor traffic.
– Correct. See the quote above. - Cyclists travelling on the cycle lane have an obligation to give way to me.
– Wrong. It is you who have the greatest obligations. - I am not permitted to cross the cycle lane, because there is a 1:1 ratio in the length of the lines on the road marking and of the gaps in between.
– Wrong. This only describes the appearance of the road marking, and has nothing to do with whether or not you are permitted to cross it. - Drivers of class II mopeds travelling on the cycle lane have an obligation to give way to me.
– Wrong. It is you who have the greatest obligations.
