A “warning triangle is to be put out [...] when the maximum permitted speed is higher than 50 kilometres an hour and where the vehicle may not be stopped or parked [...] A warning triangle is also to be put out when the vehicle for some other reason is parked on a carriageway and the weather conditions or other circumstances make it difficult for other drivers to see the vehicle in time.” (Swedish Road Traffic Ordinance)

However, the Driving Licence Book (19th Edition, page 104) chooses to describe it in the following way: “On roads with a speed limit of 60 km/h or higher [...] Put out a warning triangle”. Higher than 50 km/h in practice means that the rule first begins to apply at 60 km/h, as this is the next step on the speed scale.

Review of the options:

  • Yes, always, since the car is stationary on the carriageway due to an engine problem or similar.
    – Wrong according to the quote from the Road Traffic Ordinance.
  • Yes, always, since the maximum permitted speed is 50 km/h.
    – Wrong, it is at speed limits higher than 50 km/h that a triangle must be put out. Exactly 50 km/h is not higher than 50 km/h.
  • Only if the weather conditions or other circumstances make it difficult for other drivers to see the vehicle in time.
    – Correct according to the quote from the Road Traffic Ordinance.
