What does maximum speed capacity mean?

  • Incorrect: That it is inappropriate to drive faster.
  • Correct: The maximum speed for which a vehicle has been built.
  • Incorrect: That the maximum permitted speed is subject to change.

If for example Volvo builds a car that they say can/may be driven at a maximum speed of 200 km/h, that is the maximum speed capacity. If you tune up the engine to do 230 km/h, the maximum speed capacity is still 200 km/h, as the other parts of the car are not made to handle higher speeds than that.
