Driving licence test

You are driving on a narrow road and will soon meet a lorry approaching from the opposite direction. Are you permitted to drive onto the verge and use the gravel path as a place at which to pass?

  • Correct: đź”’
  • Incorrect: đź”’

It is appropriate to drive onto the verge, and neither does this count as stopping.

The Ordinance on Road Traffic Definitions defines stopping as:

“A vehicle that is stationary for a reason other than
1. to avoid a hazard,
2, is due to traffic conditions, or
3. constitutes parking
”

In this example, your being stationary meets both conditions 1 and 2. It is therefore not classed as stopping, and is therefore not prohibited.
