What is true when it comes to the fuel consumption of new cars?

  • Correct: It has gone down over the last few decades.
  • Incorrect: It has gone up over the last few decades.
  • Incorrect: It has remain unchanged over the last few decades.
  • Incorrect: In diesel vehicles, it has gone down in the last few decades and in petrol vehicles, it has gone up.

New cars use the fuel more efficiently. In 1975, a new car would consume 0.11 litres/km. A new car in 2010 only used 0.065 litres/km (Swedish Transport Administration).
