Theory test

You have forgotten to buy something and turn around to return to the shopping area. Was it appropriate to use the roundabout in order to turn around?

  • Correct: 🔒
  • Incorrect: 🔒

It is a myth that you are only permitted to drive a certain amount of circuits of a roundabout. The law does not regulate the number of circuits – what the law does prohibit is unnecessary driving or driving that is disruptive to traffic. In this example, you have good reason to complete a whole circuit, which means that it is permitted.

A roundabout is a good place at which to turn around, because you avoid having to stop at a junction and reversing around a corner, or performing some similar manoeuvre.

Am I permitted to make 3 circuits of the roundabout?
– It depends on whether or not you have a good reason to do so. A good reason could be that your GPS is not working properly, or if you are not able to change to the right-hand lane in a safe manner.
