What does the exit rule entail?

  • Incorrect: That you may only drive out if this can be done without danger to other road users.
  • Correct: That you are obliged to give way when exiting a parking area, petrol station or similar.
  • Incorrect: That you must give way to a bus if the speed limit is 50 km/h or lower.

The exit rule: “You are always obliged to give way when driving out onto a road or street from [...] a parking area, petrol station or similar location”. (Driving Licence Book, 19th Edition, page 45)
