What does a catalytic converter do?

  • Incorrect: Facilitates cold starts.
  • Incorrect: Reduces engine noise (silencer).
  • Correct: Converts over 80% of the harmful substances in the exhaust to water and carbon dioxide.
  • Incorrect: Reduces the car's carbon dioxide emissions by over 80%.
  • The catalytic converter converts the harmful substances in the petrol into carbon dioxide and water through chemical reactions.
  • 80–95% of the harmful substances disappear.
  • The catalytic converter has a working temperature of 400-600°C, which means it takes a while before it works optimally.
