You are driving through a tunnel and have to stop because of a bus with a flat tyre further ahead. Which statement is true?

  • Correct: I should stay in the car and turn off the engine.
  • Incorrect: I should leave the car and take the keys with me.
  • Incorrect: I should stay in the car and keep the engine running.
  • Incorrect: I should leave the car with the keys in the ignition.

In a tunnel: “In case of a queue forming [...] Stay in the car and turn off the engine.” (Driving Licence Book, 19th Edition, page 254)

You should only leave the car in case of fire or similar, i.e. not in case of a regular traffic jam.
