I am so happy to finally say that I passed my driving test today on my second attempt! Taking the exam at the Trafikverket in Upplands Väsby is definitely challenging, but all the practice totally paid off.

My first attempt was honestly a solid learning experience. The Swedish driving test is all about forward-planning, hazard awareness, and tweaking your speed to match the environment.

Some Comments Like this:

- Predict and assess the consequences of different courses of events.

- Interact with other road users

- Show good attention

- Adjust your speed to the prevailing circumstances

- Apply the rules that apply to driving vehicles

I took all the feedback from that first run, worked on it, and went in today feeling way more ready.

A massive shoutout to today’s inspector, too. He was super cool and friendly right from the start. Before we even hopped into the Trafikverket car (a Volvo XC60), he walked me through exactly how the whole test would go. Just having that casual chat completely killed my pre-test jitters and made me feel so much more comfortable behind the wheel.

The drive itself was a great route that tested a bit of everything. We started out from the Trafikverket parking lot, heading down Smedbyvägen and Bandenvägen toward Breddenvägen. From there, I had to navigate the tricky figure-8 roundabout to merge onto the E4 highway towards Stockholm. I took the Rotebro exit and passed through three roundabouts heading towards the Sollentuna Kyrka area. That’s where I tackled the ”reverse around a corner” maneuver.

After that, we headed back onto Norrvikenleden toward Rotebro and took a right onto Sollentunaholmsvägen—a quiet, remote road. This is where the hard braking exercise happened! The inspector had actually mentioned before the drive that this was a possible exercise, but I honestly didn’t expect it to actually pop up on my test. My stopping distance on the first try was a bit longer than expected, but he was incredibly kind and gave me a second attempt to nail it. Doing a full emergency stop definitely gets your adrenaline going, but it’s a great way to prove you can handle the car safely under pressure.

Finally, we took Norrvikenleden back to Johanneslundsvägen. Pulling into the parking lot and hearing him say that I passed was just the best feeling ever.

For anyone prepping for their own test in this area, I’ve mapped out the exact route I took so you can practice it yourself:

To anyone out there practicing right now: take it easy, plan your maneuvers early, keep your head moving to check those blind spots, and just breathe. You got this!
