Got failed twice - what to do
I got more than 50 lessons, with 2 different instructors. I got nobody to do private practice with. Failed driving exam twice because of the same reasons: i have trouble with merging to the motorway from the acceleration lane and i press the acceleration a bit too hard generally (and apparently they don’t like that, even when i need to speed when joining the motorway). Now second time, i had winter conditions and i did drive slower than usual - on a 70 road, i had like 50 speed. They wanted me even slower apparently. I don’t understand the other reasons, i position myself well and see other cars and stop in time etc but somehow they still mark it on the exam i lack that..
At this point, i feel like giving up and the schools are just eating my money, no longer providing information to correct my mistakes.
Anybody having the same experience? What would you recommend?
I got failed on my first exam due to being too aggressive in my driving, even though everything else was perfect. I corrected that and overstated defensive driving when it came to city driving, crossings and so on in my second attempt and passed.
Listen to the instructors and correct the things they mention. They might fail you since they think you drive to fast and aggressive in comparison to your skill set, since everyone without a license is still considered a beginner to some extent.
Drive slower and more careful than you think, and focus on the timing when entering the highway rather than speed - although don’t drive to slow of course, you need to be close to the limit as long as it’s not very slippery. Good luck!
OP here:
Cannot change driving schools anymore because there’s not many more to try in the small town i am in. Also the instructors i’ve had so far they told me i’m ready.. so i dont think there’s much more to learn, but more to be mindful and try to apply the things..
Thanks really for the tips with agressive driving, i thought myself now that maybe it’s that i need to change HOW i drive, more defensively and really think about the safety/risks first and only after about the technique or how ’correct’ i do things...
Change to automatic I was in the situation as you when I changed to automatic I passed
Better go and do your exam in a small town where there is no much traffic, you can stay there for like two nights, practice with their driving school and do exam. its very easy.
I failed 4 times, it has nothing to do with the city just the time. I passed on a friday at 10-11 when there is no traffic
OP here:
I passed, 4th try!! I haven’t gotten any lessons in between, it was just about who you get as an examiner and maybe a bit of reflection and improvement on my side. I drove a bit slower and more cautious than usual. It’s just that i am an anxious person and this time i got an examiner who understood that and did not categorize it as ’they can’t drive or don’t know rules’ but just that they trust everything gets better with experience, being relaxed and we can’t be perfect as a first time driver on the test, under scrutiny.
I hope someone else in the same position can get some insight from my experience. It really matters who you get as an examiner and sometimes driving mistakes can be fixed through being yourself aware of it, it’s not neccessarily skill or needs more lessons.
