Gears in diesel car

Hi
Is there a difference between petrol and diesel car gear shifting?
What is an overdrive gear?

The diesel cars (which you are likely to drive for your test, depending on city/office) have a sixth gear, which is mostly used for high-speed cruising.

Depending on where you do your test, you might not even have to switch to 6th gear, for example if the time on the motorway is short, not too high speed or very trafficked. 110km/h highway I would switch to 6th. 80km/h and heavy traffic, 5th is fine.

Also worth noting about diesel cars is that the engine is more powerful. You could drive off just by releasing the clutch, whereas a petrol car might stall if you didn’t also give some gas.

Good luck on your test. :D
